A Little of the Old In and Out

In: The LA.Com Blog. This tasty bit of blind item yum yum:

"When this famed couple first hooked up, he (a movie and stage star) came with a long romantic history that numbered very nice lovers of both sexes. She (a TV diva with occasional stage side trips) also had a history of dating very nice guys who occasionally liked to play on both sides of the fence--which worked just fine with her because she mostly was into plotting career moves anyway, not sex. So, now that these two have a steady thing going, how do they make their relationship work, especially when their busy work schedules keep them apart so often? In their cozy little arrangement, he gets the freedom to dally now and then, so long as he keeps to the couple?s strict one-night-only rule. And she has freedom to run riot through the high-end catalogues she devours, buying all the clothes and house stuff she pleases--which means she rarely wears the same thing twice and has a house to die for. And every once in awhile, they actually have sex together. "

The comments section says Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, but I believe that those two actually care about one another, although I am hard pressed to find another top tier celebrity couple with stage and tv experience. I can't imagine Ferris Beuller (air quotes) "jooking" on some other chick. Anyhoo: post your comments here.

Out: Karl Rove. Power is, indeed, an aphrodisiac (The Corsair checks out his 'fro), especially in DC, as Lloyd Grove so wisely tells us:

"Don't look now, but Karl Rove is the Republican Party's newest sex symbol.

"The bespectacled, wispyhaired political guru - known in some circles as 'Bush's brain' - had to be physically protected Tuesday night from a flock of lady admirers during a cocktail party at Gotham Hall.

"'As soon as he got off the stage, he was mobbed by a group of women,' party volunteer Warren Seubel told Lowdown.

"'Women were fawning over him. They were swooning,' said Seubel. 'I've never seen someone so gnarly get so much attention from so many women.'"

Eeew. But that, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, is Power.

In: James Amos. In Vibe this month is an interesting story as told to Omoronke Idowu-Reeves (and you thought my name was hard) by John Amos, aka, James Evans, Sr. of Good Times -- that's (skips beat) Dynomite:

"... There's a misconception that I left the show; but actually I was fired. Good Times creator Norman Lear told me, ' the show has been picked up for another season but you won't be with us.' He said the production staff regarded me as a disruptive factor. And that came from me fighting for script quality. The writers got tired of their lives being threatened and me threatening to bend parts of them that don't bend. So they killed the character off."

James always did suffer from hypertension.

Out: Kim Masters out at Esquire?! Say it aint so! According to Defamer:

"We hear a rumor that Hollywood reporter Kim Masters is out at Esquire after they failed to renew her contract. Says a source, 'From what I hear, Esquire felt 1) she couldn't write and 2) wasn't generating any buzz with what she did write. Also, she kept complaining to them about everything, and they just got sick of her.' Another source offers a capsule review of Masters: 'Good reporter, bad writer, unpleasant person.'"

Ouch! All the legends are being put to sleep.

In: The Observer. I love this weeks politics RNC convention issue. Especially this article on Pat Buchanan, which includes these memorable lines:

"On Monday, Aug. 30, the 65-year-old Mr. Buchanan?bigger than life, bigger even than TV, his eyebrows jutting out like falcon nests, wearing a gray pinstripe suit?was moving through Herald Square toward the MSNBC set of Hardball, and suddenly found himself in the middle of a Buchananesque nightmare: a hot, gummy, humid thoroughfare teeming with multiculturalism and discount stores, bursting with cheap Chinese imports."

There's also a fantastic interview with former National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft. And what the New York Republican inner circles of power are saying about a possible Giuliani-(Mississippi Governor and former RNC head Hailey) Barbour ticket in 2008.

No one does stories about old powerful white men like the Observer.

Out: Congressman Sehorn? I'd wager that Jason Sehorn is setting himself up for a House run, at least that's the impression that the NYTimes' Boldface Column gives:

"When JASON SEHORN and ANGIE HARMON arrived (at a RNC cocktail party), Ms. Harmon was so mobbed by reporters at the door it took her 15 minutes to get inside the store.

"'On a purely superficial level, have you seen her rings?'' one reporter asked, gesturing to Ms. Harmon's pear-shaped, large-thumbnail-size engagement ring and diamond wedding band. Mr. Sehorn, no slouch in the bling department himself, was wearing a diamond-sprinkled Rolex.
Mr. Sehorn and Ms. Harmon are Republican, but they don't dress like it. She wore a floral top with a deep V-neck by SHERI BODELL and skinny Vuitton pants to match her little Vuitton bag. The rhinestone Vote necklace didn't quite offer the blaze of her diamond earrings and gold bracelets, but, hey, voting is hip and this was a nonpartisan affair. The only thing remotely Republican about Ms. Harmon's look might have been her hair: part new-wave pompadour, part homage to Republican big hair, with tiny braids woven in from the side; the bottom was long and loose.

"Mr. Sehorn wore a sharp blue suit and checked shirt and had the superconfident air of a future politician. In fact, with their angular good looks and home base in Texas, Ms. Harmon and Mr. Sehorn appeared to be a political couple in the making.

"As he talked to the crowd, Mr. Sehorn made a complete 360 as he spoke, to make sure that he made eye contact with everyone around him. (They don't teach this stuff at football training camp, do they?)"

Very public declaration of political beliefs plus omnipresence at convention cocktail parties equals networking for future Congressional run.

Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker is just a couple old geezers with no future, nobody cares about what will happen with these two persons
