Michael's Without Michael Wolff

How does one manage to endure lunch at Michael's without Michael Wolff in the room? With great difficulty, we assure you. Why, just being in the same room as Michael Wolff, breathing the same oxygen, is sure to raise one's blue-state smartness quotient, no? Still, we managed. We endured a Columbus Day lunch with the aid of our favorite social chronicler, David Patrick Columbia yesterday.

At Wolff's "Table 5" was a diminutive Anderson Cooper. Behind us, a tan and rested Barry Diller. Also in attendance was a cadaverous Ben Bradlee -- all dressed in black, hair slicked back -- of the Washington Post, who sat with the Post's resident gasbag, Richard Cohen.

Steve Millington brought on his A-Game; he and DPC and I were left wondering whether or not Michael Wolff would come back. We peg the odds at 5-1.
