"With the spring movie season in full swing, Tuesday night brought a Cinema Society screening of The Life Before Her Eyes, sponsored by Nicole Miller. 'I hadn't seen the movie before we decided to sponsor, but I liked all the actresses and I knew it would be a great event,' said Miller of the film, which stars Uma Thurman, Eva Amurri, and Evan Rachel Wood ... At the party, Thurman was blatantly uninterested in talking fashion. 'I'm a few martinis in and I have no idea what I'm wearing; so let's just say it's vintage,' she deadpanned, surrounded by a slew of enthralled men. 'Thank you and God bless.'" (Fashionweekdaily)

"In a change of tone, South Africa urged Zimbabwe’s government on Thursday to release results from the disputed March 29 presidential election that has thrown the nation into political crisis. Thabo Mbeki, South Africa’s president who has acted as a mediator between the opposition and government, had until now largely played down the political stalemate in Zimbabwe and counseled patience in dealing with its autocratic president, Robert Mugabe." "There's finally something to do before locking yourself in for the weekend! And you get free wine and cheese! I recently noticed that starting about 6PM every Thursday, gangs of seemingly sane people move en masse to 25th and 26th Streets, between 10th and 11th Avenues. This is where all the terminally chic, divinely fabulash art galleries are—many of them in the same buildings—and on Thursday they become a marvel of people watching, comp crackers, and even some art appreciation. Just get your ass in that vicinity and follow the throngs and you'll be able to fill at least two solid hours by ogling overpriced experimental art along with pretentious wannabes with bad hairstyles." "Last night in New York. Down at the Pierre there was the Turn of Our Century Ball at which more than 500 turned out to honor Jeffrey Peek, Chairman and CEO of CIT with the Ann Vanderbilt Award for Achievement in recognition of his personal contribution to Partnership with Children over the years ... They raised a million dollars last night ... The evening’s Chairs were Beatrice Broadwater, Thong Nguyen and Liz Peek. The Founders Committee includes Anthony Ittleson and Wendy Vanderbilt." "Victoria Beckham stepped out with a gaggle of high-profile girlfriends for an early 34th birthday celebration - British actress Kate Beckinsale, and Eva Longoria - but where was girlfriend Katie Holmes and husband Tom Cruise? The couple who had famously welcomed the Beckhams with open arms upon their high-profile arrival in Los Angeles, were noticeably absent at the dinner for the Spice Girl as Eva Longoria's Hollywood eaterie."
