What's Up With Michael Jackson?

Michael Jackson, after an absence from the limelight, has been making public moves of late. After taking a "disco nap," the Jesus-juicing King of Pop was back on the Los Angeles scene. From E! Online:

"He was at Off the Wall, the West Hollywood antique store that bears the same name as his 1979 album. An inside source tells E! News that the rarely seen star bought a Pan Am aluminum cast model airplane.

"The source says Michael was looking around at other items but only purchased the plane. 'It was a little difficult because people were pounding on doors and windows...so he was in and out pretty quick,' an eyewitness tells E! News. 'The paparazzi were in hot pursuit of him.'"

As it should be. The Marcia Brady-dating, Magestik Magnificent-employing moonwalker embodies, freakishly, all that is Felliniesque in American culture. There has been talk of a "huge" comeback tour -- who would go to see such a freakshow? -- and that should contrast oh-so-messily with his sister Janet Jackson's own trainwreck of a tour. Curious how many child stars remain stuck in the regressive loop of their childhoods, no? Considering the massive pop-cultural evidence of lives-not-worth-living of grown child stars (and ones that didn't get to grow), it almost argues for the criminalization of stage moms and dads.

"Momagers" don't let your babies grow up to be has beens ...
