Why Do We Let Paris Hilton Skip Line?

(image via iheartthat)

Someone, somewhere, began the trend of allowing Paris Hilton to skip in front of them in lines. And now it is an American tradition, as regular as the friends-with-benfits and corruption in Chicago politics. Where does this sense of entitlement come from? Have you ever seen Paris just stride to the head of a line? It's uncanny shit! No one -- okay: maybe Bill Clinton -- could pull something off with such moxie and such an insouciant look of "What, are you going to say something, bitch?" as Paris.

What has Paris Hilton done to distinguish herself to such a degree that we allow her, in the club bathroom and everywhere else, to come first among many? A blogger at Disgracian was elbowed out of the way by Paris at, of all places, the Rite Aid.

This odd sense of entitlement may have occurred first at the height of her boldface power in the glossies and the gossip pages. But now it has just gone too far.

Even Paris Hilton's parents have gotten into the act. Kathy Hilton, when visiting her daughter in the pokey last year, breezed by others seeking to visit their jailed relations -- some waiting as much as 4 hours. From Page Six:

"PARIS Hilton cutting the security check-in line at Miami International Airport to catch a flight to New York."

And, we cannot fail to note, there is that funny story about Lindsay Lohan trying to "pull a Paris," but being stopped short. From Popdirt: "The New York Daily News reports that when Lindsay Lohan and a bunch of pals partied at Bungalow 8 (in 2004), they tried to copy Paris Hilton’s maneuver to the head of the bathroom line at the club. Lohan and pals were greeted with jeers after trying the same move. 'But Paris just did it,' whined one Lohan hanger-on. A gatekeeper responded: 'Yeah, but she does it every week. Now get to the back of the line.'"

Why anyone would want to let Paris Hilton precede them -- hint: Valtrex -- and not follow them into the bathroom defies logic.
