David Simon, the gloomy creator of HBO brilliant "The Wire" -- arguably one of the best shows in the history of television -- has claimed, in the past, that the show was about "the end of Empire." Simon recently appeared on NOW with Bill Moyers last week, expounding on his dark thesis. "The Wire is an angry editorial," the former Baltimore Sun police reporter told Moyers, the former Press Secretary for LBJ. "As if Frank Rich was given twelve hours."

"I don't mind (being called the angriest man on television) .. I just don't think it means anything," he continued. Simon declared the present moment "Empires End," saying, "Britain's still there and they've come to terms with what they can and can't do .. America is still in a state of delusion."
