Costume Gala Roundup

"'What's funny about this event is the anticipation we all suffer before it,' said Marc Jacobs of last night's Costume Institute Gala, which he hosted along with Justin Timberlake, Kate Moss, and Vogue's Anna Wintour. 'But today, I can't stop thinking about next year's!' .. As guests enjoyed a dessert of Baked Alaska, yet another celebrity made an appearance. 'When Bono comes onto the stage and makes a speech and then introduces Kanye West to perform...' mused Brooklyn Decker of the philanthroper's speech honoring Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen and other supermodels. 'Well, you really can't top that. He put on a great show. And never do I think I will see such an eclectic mix of people dancing, jumping, and singing all in one place ever again!' West, of course, performed before bringing Rihanna to the stage, as Marc's table (Winona Ryder, John Currin and Rachel Feinstein and Madonna) cheered wildly. After the performance, VIPs like Andrew Saffir and Daniel Benedict descended to Monkey Bar, where Madonna spent the evening on the dance floor with Jesus Luz and Steven Klein." (Fashionweekdaily)

"Where 2008's Superheroes exhibit paid tribute to Catwoman and co., this year's edition, titled The Model as Muse, puts fashion's real-life heroines on a pedestal. And back on the triple-wide red carpet, there was plenty of 'all hail'-ing going on, as a multigenerational who's who of cover girls—everyone from Lauren Hutton to Gisele to Jessica Stam—trotted by. After Heidi Klum was grazed by a few sprinkles of rain, half a dozen suited men immediately started fussing over her gown—among them its creator, Gilles Mendel. And no sooner had Karolina Kurkova's Richard Chai bracelet snapped off than the designer swooped in and snapped it back on ... On the mic, Kanye West gave shout-outs to Alexander Wang and Alber Elbaz before rapping, "Some people made it to this room because they had rich parents, some people made it to this room because they paid their dues.'" "Hotties like Bar Refaeli and Miranda Kerr were spotted heading over to the Monkey Bar for a swanky after-party hosted by Marc Jacobs .. Lovebirds Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel also hit up the Jacobs soiree as well as Madonna and Jesus Luz, and Jessica Alba and Cash Warren. The shindig also had plenty of assorted singles like Kate Hudson, Rihanna, Agyness Deyn, Liv Tyler, and Kate Bosworth. Once the Marc Jacobs party winded down, many of the A-list guests made their way over to Bungalow 8 to continue celebrating into the wee hours." (Celebrity-Gossip)

"Last night's Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala, 'The Model As Muse,' was a little like an unexpected blizzard... First a few snowflakes, large enough so you can see their patterns, then a fine flurry of flakes criss-crossing in front of you, and finally, so many, coming so fast your field of vision is obliterated! Contrary to rumors circulating that Naomi wasn't coming, that Karl was boycotting and that everyone would be cutting back, last night may have been the grandest gala, the most star-studded of all! Highlights of the evening included: First to arrive, host and hostess Marc Jacobs and the Girl Golden, Kate Moss. The evening really started off with a wham, bam, thank you, ma'am! Stella McCartney playfully pinching Kate Hudson's ass!" (Papermag)
